Structural Steel
Erection.
Bolted and welded structural steel erection for commercial, tilt-up, tenant improvement, and custom residential projects. Cano Steel field crews that hit the schedule and the plans, across Los Angeles and Southern California.
Setting the steel
right the first time.
Erection is the field phase where fabricated columns, beams, and framing are unloaded, rigged, flown into place, plumbed, bolted, and welded into a finished frame. It is the part of the job with the least margin for error, because the steel has to match the detailing, the anchor bolts, and the engineer's connection design exactly.
Cano Steel handles this with our own crews rather than passing it to a subcontractor. Because we also fabricate and detail in-house, the field team already knows the steel before it arrives. That continuity is how commercial ground-ups, tilt-up shells, and exposed residential frames go up on spec and on schedule.
What the scope covers
- Commercial Ground-Up
- Tilt-Up Developments
- Tenant Improvements
- Luxury Residential
- Moment & Braced Frames
- Rigging & Crane Coordination
Erection for a seismic region.
Building in Los Angeles and the surrounding counties means building in a high seismic zone. Moment frames and braced frames are common here precisely because the structure has to carry lateral loads, and those are the frames that live or die on the quality of their field connections. Every bolt torqued and every weld run during erection is part of that lateral system.
Our crews work to the drawings and to City of Los Angeles and California code expectations, and we stage the frame so third party special inspection fits the schedule instead of fighting it. From Orange County hillsides to San Diego county tilt-up shells, we plan crane access and pick sequence around the realities of dense Southern California sites.
From delivery to final bolt.
Plan and Sequence
We review the erection drawings, walk site access, and sequence the picks and delivery so the steel lands in the order the frame needs it.
Rig and Set
Crane and rigging coordination puts each column and beam in place. Members are plumbed, aligned, and temporarily secured as the frame rises.
Connect and Weld
Bolted and field welded connections are completed to AWS D1.1, including the moment and braced frame joints that carry lateral load.
Inspect and Close
Internal QA comes first, then we support third party special inspection so the frame is documented, signed off, and ready for the next trade.
Erection is priced
by the job.
Every frame is different, so we bid from the plans rather than a flat rate. These are the factors that move an erection budget.
Scope and tonnage
Total weight of steel, the number of pieces, and how many connections have to be made in the field all drive the labor and crane time your project needs.
Frame type
Moment frames and braced frames call for more field welding, bolting, and inspection than simple gravity framing, so the connection type shapes the effort.
Site access and staging
Crane setup, laydown room, and how the delivery trucks reach the pick zone change the plan. Tight urban sites take more sequencing than open commercial pads.
Schedule and sequencing
Working around other trades, phased occupancy, or a compressed timeline affects crew size and how the erection is staged.
Send us the drawings and we will scope the steel, flag coordination risks early, and come back with an honest bid and schedule.
Erection FAQs.
Do you self-perform the erection or sub it out?
We self-perform. Cano Steel runs its own field crews out of Los Angeles, so the same team that reviews the plans is on the iron when the steel goes up. One scope, one point of accountability, from the first pick to the final bolt.
Can you coordinate the crane and rigging on a tight urban site?
Yes. Rigging and crane coordination is part of how we plan every erection. We walk the site access, sequence the picks, and stage delivery so the steel lands in the right order, which matters on constrained Los Angeles and Orange County lots where laydown space is limited.
Do you handle field welding and inspection during erection?
Yes. Our field welders are certified to AWS D1.1 structural standards, and we run internal QA before third party special inspection. Moment and braced frame connections are completed and documented so the inspector has what they need without slowing the schedule.
Have a frame to set?
Send us the scope.
We will review the plans, walk the schedule, and give you a straight answer on whether we are the right fit, and a bid if we are.
