Steel
Detailing.
Shop and erection drawings that match your architect's intent and the engineer's specs. No field surprises, no back and forth. Detailing for structural steel across Los Angeles and Southern California.
The drawings that
build the steel.
Detailing is the bridge between design and fabrication. The engineer's structural drawings and the architect's plans say what the building needs to do. Detailing translates that into the exact shop drawings, erection drawings, and anchor bolt plans the shop and the field crew build from, down to every hole, bolt, and weld.
Cano Steel details in-house whenever a project allows it. Because the same company that draws the steel also fabricates and erects it, the details are grounded in how the work actually gets built, not just how it looks on paper. That is how anchor bolt plans land ahead of the pour and how connections come together clean in the field.
What the scope covers
- Shop Drawings
- Erection Drawings
- Connection Design Coord.
- Anchor Bolt Plans
- RFI Management
- BIM Ready Outputs
Detailing for code and inspection.
Steel built in Los Angeles and Southern California has to satisfy a demanding code environment and, on many jobs, third party special inspection. That starts on the detailing side. Clean connection details and accurate anchor bolt plans mean the fabricator builds it right and the inspector can verify it, without the costly rework that comes from drawings that do not match the approved design.
For the seismic frames common in this region, connection design coordination with the engineer of record is where a lot of the value lives. We manage RFIs and produce BIM ready output so conflicts get caught on the model, not in the field. Getting the details right up front is the cheapest insurance a steel project can buy.
Design into buildable steel.
Review the Design
We start from the structural and architectural drawings, confirm intent and specs, and flag anything that needs a question answered early.
Model and Coordinate
We build the steel in a coordinated model, work connection design with the engineer of record, and manage RFIs before drawings are issued.
Issue the Drawings
Shop drawings, erection drawings, and anchor bolt plans go out for approval, with anchor plans delivered ahead of the pour.
Support the Build
The details carry straight into our own shop and field crews, so questions get answered by the people who drew them.
Detailing is scoped
to the project.
Detailing effort tracks the complexity of the structure and the coordination it needs. These are the factors that move it.
Size and complexity of the frame
The number of members, connections, and unique conditions in the structure sets how many drawings and how much modeling the job takes.
Connection design coordination
How much back and forth is needed with the engineer of record on connection design affects the detailing hours, especially on moment and braced frames.
Level of BIM and coordination
Projects that require a full coordinated model, clash detection, and BIM ready output carry more up front modeling than a straightforward drawing set.
RFIs and revisions
Open design questions and revision cycles during the project add to the detailing effort, which is why resolving them early keeps the whole job cheaper.
On most projects detailing is folded into the full fabrication and erection scope, so you get one team and one point of accountability from drawing to final bolt.
Detailing FAQs.
Do you detail your own projects or work from owner-provided drawings?
We detail our own projects whenever we can, which keeps the shop drawings, connection details, and anchor bolt plans in one hand from design to erection. When a project requires an owner-provided detailer, we work with that team too.
Will the shop drawings match my architect and engineer of record?
That is the point of detailing. We produce shop and erection drawings that carry the architect's intent and the engineer's specs into buildable steel, coordinating connection design so what gets fabricated and erected matches the approved documents. No field surprises and no back and forth.
Can you deliver BIM ready output and manage RFIs?
Yes. We produce BIM ready outputs and manage RFIs through the detailing phase, so conflicts get resolved on the model and on paper before they reach the shop floor or the field crew.
